About the position:

New Hampshire Public Radio is seeking a Staff Accountant with strong accounting skills and excellent attention to detail to work in our Finance department. He or she will be responsible for a timely month end close process as well as account reconciliations and assistance with grant budgets. The Staff Accountant will also make recommendations to streamline and improve existing processes to achieve efficiency and best practices. This position reports to the Director of Finance.

Responsibilities:

Month End Close:

  • Generate and post journal entries for month end processing in support of a complete and timely fiscal closing cycle
  • Process cash receipts
  • Assist with distribution of departmental financial statements


Reconciliations:

  • Perform Bank Account, Accrued Expenses, Accounts Receivable and Deferred Revenue reconciliations
  • Assist Director of Finance with reconciliation of contributions
  • Reconcile development and marketing events as they occur
  • Perform other Balance Sheet reconciliations as assigned 


Other Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparation of annual budget
  • Assist with grant budget production and reconcile grant budgets to actual
  • Assist with preparation and completion of the year-end audit
  • Maintain custody of and oversee disbursement and replenishment of petty cash
  • Assist with administration of retirement program
  • Serve as backup for processing Accounts Payable
  • Streamline and improve current processes to achieve efficiency and best practices
  • Maintain process and procedure manual for the position
  • Complete special projects, research and analysis as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Five years of relevant experience with at least three in account reconciliation
  • Experience in non-profit accounting is preferred
  • Good working knowledge of computer information systems. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs with excellent Excel skills, including formulas, look-ups and pivot tables, required
  • Good understanding of accounting best practices and GAAP
  • Strong budget analysis skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is preferred, or equivalent experience.
