New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR) seeks a Senior Producer of Podcasts and Special Projects to join our Creative Production Unit (CPU), a multi-media production team that creates and distributes our original programming and on-demand content. This is a new position that offers an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively and make a significant mark on NHPR as it develops new programs and future audiences.  Candidates with experience in long form audio journalism and storytelling are encouraged to apply.

Meet NHPR's Creative Production Unit

NHPR's Creative Production Unit (CPU) is the place where innovative ideas percolate, emerging trends flourish, audiences engage, and great audio and journalism meet. The 9-person team of producers, reporters, and digital creators work together to produce NHPR's podcasts Outside/In and Civics 101, the local program Word of Mouth, and the Hearken-fueled series "Only In New Hampshire." The CPU is an editorial, production, and digital resource for NHPR's News department, and producers and reporters often collaborate on stories, series, and special projects.


About the Job

NHPR's Creative Production Unit, newsroom, and production teams thrive on collaboration, and we're looking for a creative, ambitious, self-motivated audio journalist with sensibilities that bridge narrative and news. The Senior Producer will lead the production of new on-demand projects across content teams, while also bringing ideas and a strong editorial ear to our existing CPU shows and podcasts. You will work closely with the Executive Producer of the Creative Production Unit, the Managing Editor for News, as well as NHPR's Directors of News and Innovative Content. This is a hands-on role requiring exceptional writing, editing, production, and communication skills. It reports to the Executive Producer of the Creative Production Unit.


What You'll Do

Producing content for CPU shows as well as incubating new projects means that there is no typical day for the Senior Producer. You may spend weeks producing stories for Outside/In and Only In New Hampshire; the next few months working with reporters on a newsroom-driven podcast; and the following weeks reporting a series of your own. It's a hands-on role that requires organization, teamwork, flexibility, and forward-thinking, but rewards creativity and self-motivation.


Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and/or participate in the production of new audio programs and series.
  • Oversee the editorial process of each new project: from pitch to final mix and digital presentation.
  • Pitch, develop, and produce stories for existing CPU programs.
  • Collaborate with NHPR newsroom, CPU producers, and others on features and on-demand projects.
  • Ensure a diversity of voices, perspectives, and talent across programs.
  • Guarantee the on-time, flawless delivery of audio to multiple platforms.
  • Work independently, while also pitching in on your fellow producers' projects.
  • Contribute, as appropriate, to on-air and podcast fundraising activities.


Ideal Candidate

You have excellent production skills, enterprise reporting experience, and a passion for new forms of storytelling. You have a keen editorial ear and know how to make great work extraordinary. You have an appreciation for engaging audio across a broad range of genres and topics, and understand what it takes to get there. Finally, you are a team player who understands the importance of respect, collaboration, and community.



  • 4+ years combined experience in editing or producing long form, narrative pieces and reporting.
  • Experience with Adobe Audition, Hindenburg, ProTools or similar audio editing programs.
  • Excellent editorial judgment.
  • Passion and intuition for audio production, a keen eye and ear for media trends and audience needs and wants.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage projects of varying scale and complexity simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a team orientation.
  • Creative and innovative thinker, willing to challenge, stretch and be a change agent in the evolution of the company.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability with multi-platform content.
  • Knowledge of relevant FCC rules and regulations.
